Interested in people, their stories, and the lives they hope to live.
My name is Garrett Rutz, PhD. I work with people who want to understand what has been happening in their lives and relationships, and consider what they would like to be different.
I don’t assume that one explanation will fit your life. Our conversations can make room for complexity: care and hurt, uncertainty and possibility, understanding and responsibility.
Therapy is a collaborative process. We can look at the stories and patterns shaping your experience, notice what matters to you, and consider choices that fit your values and hopes.
You don’t need to know exactly what to say before reaching out. A free 15-minute consultation is a chance to discuss what brings you here and whether working together may be a fit.
In-person sessions are available in North County San Diego. Contact me for current pricing.
A narrative perspective
Narrative therapy offers a way to explore how problems have shaped your experience without treating those problems as the whole of who you are. We can look at the meanings and expectations around a difficulty, the relationships and contexts that influence it, and the values and commitments you want to bring forward.
A collaborative approach
My work begins with what matters to you: the relationships, commitments, and experiences that shape your life. Together, we can examine familiar patterns, consider different ways forward, and make room for choices that reflect your values.
